Redesigned Adams A1 - All New in 2019!

Austin Custom Brass is proud to present the newest Custom Trumpet in the Adams line, the new A1! I helped design this horn with an all-new valve block, leadpipe, and bell taper. It's a fantastic horn with a rich spectrum of overtones and a brighter-than-center sound profile. It's a wonderful all-around trumpet, with a ringing, brilliant sound that really shines in commercial settings. The scale is super even and the valves of course are fantastic!

We designed the original A1 to be a versatile horn for the crossover player. It was the first trumpet in the Adams line (now there are over 10 different models) and it was a fairly traditional setup. We did include two different tuning slides which increased the versatility factor substantially. It's a great trumpet! But the fully redesigned GenII A1 takes full advantage of 7 years of experience in trumpet design and manufacturing to deliver an amazing upgrade over the original A1. Check out this video to hear some of the differences in sound and design:

The new valve block is a two-piece block with nickel balusters so you get a good crispness to the core of the horn. Plus the valve block feels great in your hand, with good balance and ergonomics.

The GenII A1 comes standard with a Saturn water key on the tuning slide (we found the horn sounds best with no water key on the third valve slide).

The tuning slide bend and tapers are all new, as are the bell and leadpipe tapers! The tuning slide bend and bell bow shape give it a really stylish modern look.

The selected model has satin lacquer and a yellow brass bell with a .50mm gauge.

New A1V2 with CR mouth piece

Posted by David F. Paxton on 2nd May 2023

I’ve played this instrument for some weeks now, and it is a jewel. Everything I expected, and more. Blow is easy, cleanly focused; the work effort responsive and nicely slotted. Contemporary styling in cool brushed satin lacquer. It has the right mix of warmth and brightness that I need in a Bb trumpet. And, yes, it is efficient. Quite so. All said, you can (well, me at least) settle back and relax with this 2nd generation axe. It just plays. Nice, true, and sweet. Ask it to do that In whatever setting you require. This is my third Adams horn acquired from ACB in the last year. The ADAMS build quality is notable, evident with all three of them. Schilke-like, meant as high compliment. BTW-this horn sounded ok with one of my old favorite mouth pieces. However, when I drove it with an ACB CR 2D+, things got really interesting, These two (m.piece and horn) after a while, soared/sang/and-even-sizzled at times. As ACB advises (Trent, Josh) be patient. Work through the break-in period. The rewards are worth it.

    High class brass!

Posted by Nick Thomas on 12th Nov 2022

I am a 60 year old comeback player who needed a new horn after 12 years away. I have owned many horns before but wanted a fresh start with the latest in efficiency and quality both in build and tone. We all know a lot of its up to the player but this horn delivered beyond expectation. Its incredibly efficient which is even more important to me now, tons of color are possible with minor embouchure adjustments. It is very sensitive to mouthpiece choices which I like. It means the instrument is "neutral" and reacting well to what I put into it. Weight (medium light) and projection are excellent. Slots are largish and flexible. This horn wears many hats and wears them well. Trent steered me into this model after discussing several others and learning about me and my abilities. The whole crew at ACB was awesome to collaborate with on this purchase. They even sent me a video of my horn being played before shipping it to me. I couldn't be happier. Thanks!

    I love this horn!!!

Posted by Richard Crawford on 7th Sep 2022

Having played a getzen 700 for over 15 years it took a lot to switch to something I knew nothing about. The staff at ACB were amazing with helping me narrow down my choices (A2, A4 & A4LT) based on what type of music I’d be playing and what kind of setting I usually play in. This horn is like nothing I’ve ever played. Intonation is awesome. Sound is huge (even for being a ML bore horn). It did take me a while to get used to the lack of the third valve slide water key, but with that lack of mass my 1-3 & 1-2-3 finger combinations are so much easier to tune. Also the Saturn water key on the main tubing slide was different from the Amado water key I was used to but it doesn’t take long to get accustomed to it. It did take a few weeks to figure out where all the notes slot and Austin’s video on how to break in a horn really helped. After the horns first bath and properly breaking in the valves it plays better than anything I could’ve imagined. I absolutely love my tone and range with this horn. It’s a perfect all round horn and would recommend this to anyone. Thank you all so much for your help and advice!

    Great All Around Horn!

Posted by Gary J Greenfelder on 20th Aug 2021

The updated Gen II model is great! It plays great at all volumes and any style music. I have played it for big band solo work, from Maynard to Ballads as well as my brass quintet. This horn responds well to mouthpiece changes so you can get the results you want! Will enjoy this horn for years to come I am sure.

    Adams A1v2 Gen II

Posted by Brad on 22nd Jun 2021

Quick review of this great horn: EXCELLENT build quality, slots are solid and stable without feeling “stiff”. Solid core to the sound, leaning a bit towards bright., or maybe resonant is a better term. I’m using this horn 95% for “commercial”, but I believe it would work equally well for legit (concert band, etc.). As usual, Trent, Josh, Nate and Kyle (I’m probably forgetting some folks) have done a great job in horn prep and quick shipping. Buy from ACB, you will not regret it!

Very nice horn. Plays smooth and easy. Notes slot very well. Feels like it blows more free than my strad 37.

To be honest I am Adams fan, I own A4Lt and A10 both are great horns. But my new A1Gen2 is beautiful and amazing. Love tones, the way it index.. The biggest difference is its easy of play, especially in upper range.. Again this horn is amazing, great job Trent.
