This is a great flugelhorn from Adams! The Red Brass bell with the Nickel Silver flare provides a warm sound with some precision on the end due to the nickel silver.

The 4th valve on this horn lowers the pitch by a 4th. These horns are surprisingly light given the 4-valve setup.

Honestly the finest flugelhorn I have played!

Posted by Ken S. on 31st Jul 2023

I purchased the Adams F4 with confidence that it would be as great as some of the other Adams flugelhorns I have tried over the years. I needed the 4th valve for a special piece that has notes below the normal range of the flugelhorn. I am really picky about intonation and this flugelhorn is just perfect! I use the 3rd slide trigger to adjust the normal low D and Db, and also the mid-staff Ab and low G and Gb, but the 4th valve can be used as well (in combination with other valves) to lock in these pitches. For example, you can tune the 4th slide so the low D and low G are perfectly in tune with 4th only. The low F (Eb concert) is fingered 1-2-4 and is just wonderful! The intonation above the staff is also amazing. Where most flugels go flat (around A or so), this flugel maintains perfect pitch. Currently I am using the Denis Wick 4FL but have an ACB Custom Reserve 1.25F+ on order. This horn makes me so happy!
