THE AMAZING RAWENI!

These instruments are remarkable not only in appearance, but in playability and sound! The Raweni is one of the coolest trumpets available! Normally you'd have a lengthy lead time on a Raweni, but we can ship this horn today! It won't stay long, these instruments are absolutely incredible! This one has a large bore and custom yellow brass bell.  It's quite the combo!

This particular horn comes to us on consignment and is in wonderful shape save for a few very light surface scratches in the finish. In full transparency there was some shipping damage on the bell of this instrument which has been expertly repaired. The only evidence of work being some barely noticeable solder marks on the brace (see pictures). Otherwise it is extremely difficult to tell and beyond this, the horn looks as great as it plays! The valves and slides move perfectly and with great action. Don't miss out on this remarkable horn!

ABOUT SCHAGERL RAWENI TRUMPETS

Since their first appearance in 1989, Schagerl Meister instruments are well-known and renowed as the best-quality orchestral instruments. Schagerl Meister Series instruments are state-of-the-art in every way. The needs of musicians in Symphony, Opera and Chamber Orchestras are perfectly served by putting high-quality instruments in their hands. Schagerl instruments are custom made to serve the wishes of professional players.

The Schagerl Raweni was conceived to be a rotary valved trumpet with a long lead pipe that travels into the first valve after a long trip out towards the bell and then back towards the mouthpiece - giving the instrument a length similar to a piston trumpet. The horn is extremely warm sounding when played softly, having characteristics close to a cornet.

James Morrison loved the sound and nimbleness of rotary valves, but he needed a trumpet with more power. A trumpet that he could play one handed for plunger work, quick mute changes, or doubling on trombone. Not finding what he needed, he decided to collaborate with Schagerl to design the Raweni, an innovative trumpet model that he now calls The Best of Both Worlds.

Schagerl has several incredible top action rotary valve trumpets to choose from; the Raweni has the closest feeling to a piston trumpet in terms of the valve actuation, making it an easy transition if you're used to more traditional designs. One thing you'll notice about the Raweni is how fluid and clean it sounds on faster lines. Check out the video demos below to hear the versatility in the Raweni's tone colors.

 SPECS:

  • Tune: Bb
  • Bell: 123 mm / 0,50 mm / Yellow Brass
  • Bore:  Large
  • Lead Pipe: Yellowbrass

Rotary trumpets vary from their piston cousins in different ways, aside from most noticeably the valves are different, the lead pipe on a typical rotary is very short and goes from the mouthpiece straight into the 1st valve. The lead pipe on a piston trumpet is nearly 4 times as long, it goes out towards the bell and back into the 3rd valve. This difference in lead pipe length has a considerable effect on the sound and feel of the trumpet, particularly the power in the upper register.
The Raweni was conceived to be a rotary valved trumpet with a long lead pipe. This lead to several prototypes of different shapes and configurations until the beautiful instrument you see now. It actually still has the lead pipe going into the 1st valve (like any rotary) but only after a long trip out towards the bell and then back towards the mouthpiece – giving a length similar to a piston trumpet. The 'cornet-like' appearance was due to the fact that the rotors needed to be placed low (increasing the vertical dimension) and this lead to a decreased horizontal length – like a cornet. But as far as the tubing goes, this is all trumpet. The valve actuators, that look like pistons, were placed on top – so the instrument can be played with one hand, so you can still use it with a plunger mute (or other mutes).
