A euphonium with four top-action valves performs the same function as a euphonium with a 3+1 configuration (three top-action + one angled). We know that the two options can be confusing, so here’s how you choose the horn for you! Since the valves on a 4-valve euphonium are spaced further apart, they require a player to have larger hands and strong pinky fingers. Some players also report that operating all the valves with the right hand gives them a greater sense of control of the instrument. Ultimately, the choice between a 4-valve or 3+1-valve euphonium comes down to whichever feels most comfortable for you. If a 4-valve configuration sounds ideal, we highly recommend the Jupiter JEP1005 Intermediate 4-valve euphonium.
Removable valve section for easy cleaning
Cleaning and sanitizing the inside of a euphonium is typically a time-consuming and labor-intensive process. But with this horn’s removable valve section, it’s painless to clean your euphonium. Once you take the valve section off the horn, just use your standard cleaning snake to get any gunk and debris out. Plus, since the valves are removable, you no longer have to guess where the sanitizing solution is as you rotate the horn!
