Classic Jazz Trombone Sound from King

King trombones are some of the most well known in the jazz-trombone world. From trombone legends like Tommy Dorsey to JJ Johnson to today’s artists like Bob McChesney, Natalie Cressman, Nick Finzer, and Ryan Heinlein the King trombone sound has adorned thousands of stages and recordings. The King “Legend Series” of trombones are a tribute back to the vintage King models.

The King 3BPL Plus Legend Series Trombone offers a slightly more open feel compared to the standard 3B. This model is a .525"" bore which results in a full sound that is sweet and rich. It has an 8" one-piece hand hammered bell and nickel silver outer slides. The gold brass bell adds a further dimension of depth to the sound of this trombone. It's lightning-fast slide action and tremendous agility revolutionized both trombone playing and trombone manufacturing when it was first introduced, and it remains a gold standard for professional trombonists the world over.

This is a serious trombone that is ideal for jazz, commercial, salsa, pit orchestra, and even brass quintet and lighter classical music. Medium bore trombones are fantastic at being excellent chameleons and fitting into so many different musical settings.

This horn is on consignment with us from a horn collector. It is in like-new condition.

The Gold Brass gives it a little more warmth than the standard yellow brass bell. Gold Brass is sometimes called “bronze brass” and contains a higher percentage of copper than yellow brass. The increased copper content gives the bell some much-appreciated warmth and a distinct fullness to the tone. The 8” bell gives this trombone excellent presence and projection. Great for solo or ensemble playing.

SUGGESTED MOUTHPIECE PAIRING:

For more zip, little brighter sound with great energy that is still full (think for Salsa) try the AR Resonance 25.10 65 Throat with the S 6.5 Backbore

For right down the middle playing with a full sound try Austin Custom Brass 6.1s (great for playing 2nd trombone) or for someone who likes closer to a 6 1/2 AL size try the Austin Custom Brass 6s

For a big trombone sound that has lots of color and is ideal for soloing and playing gorgeous ballads try the AR Resonsonce 25.7 65 throat top with M 6.5 Backbore
