Pre-Owned Late 1940s Vintage Courtois Flugelhorn in Silver Plate

Information on these vintage Courtois flugelhorns is hard to come by, however based on its serial number we've been able to narrow its production date it to post world war II, probably around the late 40s early 50s (according to hornucopia). 

This is a great playing flugelhorn, (considering its over 70 years old!) and really speaks to the quality of Courtois' craftmanship. It has a very well balanced tone but leans a little on the brighter side, contrary to other Courtois flugelhorns we currently have in the shop.  This would be a great horn for some section work as the sound is not so individual that it wouldn't blend. Its also bright enough to shine through a big band without sounding trumpet-like. The note slots on this horn are a nice and open and generally have a good core to them. Intonation on this instrument is good and stays consistent through all the registers and dynamic ranges. This flugelhorn would be excellent for the vintage instrument collector or a player that enjoys performing with vintage instruments.

This particular flugelhorn is in fair condition but has seen some use. There is a fair amount of plate wear around the horn body especially on the usual contact points. This horn also has some scratching around it especially on the valve stems as well showing signs of repair work. There have been some patches made on this instrument, as well as some bell work done (see pictures for details). There is also some minor denting around the bell stem in particular. Beyond these cosmetic blemishes this is a well playing vintage horn. The valves on this instrument were rebuilt in 2022 (not by ACB), run great, and have excellent compression! These The slides work smoothly also. As with most vintage instruments we recommend using a heavier valve oil such as Berp Bio #3
