This vintage Courtois flugelhorn just arrived to the shop!

Check out this Antoine Courtois Flugelhorn we just received on consignment!

Information on these vintage Courtois flugelhorns is hard to come by, however based on its serial number we've been able to narrow its production date it to sometime around the 1970s (according to Brass History).

This is a great playing flugelhorn, (considering it's over 40 years old!) and really speaks to the quality of Courtois' craftmanship. It has a very well balanced tone but leans a little on the brighter side, contrary to other Courtois flugelhorns we currently have in the shop.  This would be a great horn for some section work as the sound is not so individual that it wouldn't blend. Its also bright enough to shine through a big band without sounding trumpet-like. The note slots on this horn are a nice and open and generally have a good core to them. Intonation on this instrument is good and stays consistent through all the registers and dynamic ranges. This flugelhorn would be excellent for the vintage instrument collector or a player that enjoys performing with vintage instruments.

This particular flugelhorn is in great condition but has seen some use. The lacquer is in good shape with only minimal light scratching around the body of the horn. There are a few small dents on the horn primarily under the bottom wrap of the bell stem, and underneath the flare. The "AC" logo is missing on the right side of the brace. There is also a small bit of red rot developing on the bottom wrap of the bell stem as well. See pictures for more details. Beyond this, it is a great playing and sounding horn. The valves move smoothly, and the slides work smoothly and comfortably also. As with most vintage instruments we recommend using a heavier valve oil such as Berp Bio #3
