Olds Opera Premier Bb trumpet
The Olds Opera model was introduced in the early 1960's as a new addition to the Olds lineup. At the time, the Mendez was the highest priced model and the Opera was priced just below the Mendez and more than the Recording model. It featured a nickel silver bell and leadpipe, 1st slide trigger, octagonal finger buttons (and matching top and bottom caps) and a .468 large bore. There were 2 models of this instrument; the Opera Premier which came in Nickel and the Fanfare which came in all brass. The premier/Fanfare distinction was dropped in 1965. According to olds central this horn was manufactured around 1965. It produces a dark and almost symphonic tone great for section playing as well as soloist work.
This is a beautiful pre-owned instrument that has been masterfully refurbished by our friend Kevin Stiles at Heritage music repair. In full transparency there were a few large dents as well as some smaller dents that had been removed. There were signs of extensive hammering on the bell that has also been artfully repaired. This horn still has lots of life in it but does still show minor signs of use, there is some scratching and light dimpling around the body of the horn. Notably on the leadpipe, bell stem, inner bell flare and 3rd valve slide, and valve block. There are a few barely noticeable pings on the bell flare and under the bell stem toward the first valve slide. Beyond these slight cosmetic imperfections this is a great looking and playing vintage instrument. The slides move comfortably and the valves move smoothly with great action and compression. This is a wonderful vintage instrument and would be great addition for a collector or player. Don't miss out on this great horn.
