The Conn 48B has an artistic, Art Deco design concept. Every part of the horn incorporates Art Deco details, from the mouthpiece receiver to the rimless bell. The key difference between the 48B and most modern trumpets is the tubing wrap; the third valve slide is on the right of the tuning slide rather than on the left. The wrap is also more compact than most modern horns. The design concept continues through the recessed water keys, faceted valve casings, bracing, and valves caps. The bell features more engraving than many horns, but it's the rimless edge that steals the show. A key difference in the 48B Vocabell model compared to the 40B model is in the leadpipe. The 48B features Conn's #1.5 Bore 0.458 "twin tube" leadpipe.
Although a Pre-Owned instrument this horn is in wonderful shape! This trumpet was restored by St Louis brass and woodwind. There are no dents or dings in it whatsoever and the finish is in fantastic shape save for a little silver leaf loss on the bell logo. Beyond that, this Conn is a great player! The Valves on this horn were not rebuilt however they move well and have great action. They are bottom sprung style valves and have good compression with thicker valve oil, we reccomend berp bio oil #3. This vintage, art-deco trumpet will not last long at this price, so check it out today, only at ACB!
What Conn said:
"Newest of the Connquerors, built to meet the demand for a wider, shorter model, easier to mute and hold. Has larger bell, giving it broader tone quality. The greatest trumpet of a great family. Gives you more power with less effort. Built in medium bore, Bb and A. patented Clickless Crysteel valves."
What Conn said in 1950:
"The famous Vocabell, whose new principles of tone production, is available on the 44H Connqueror trombone and the 48B Connqueror trumpet. Both of these models are tremendously popular because of the great power available with so little effort and because of the richly brilliant tone. The trumpet is in medium bore, Bb and A. Equipped with famous Clickless Crysteel valves. These quieter, long wearing valves are patented and exclusive on Conn."
What Conn Said About the Vocabell design:
"This is the name given to bells that don't have a bell wire. Supposedly, the bell is so thick/heavy that it did not need a bell wire for strength. According to Conn, "The Vocabell is more than bell without a wire in the rim. It is a solid metal bell in which the thickness of the bell bottom is scientifically graduated to permit maximum vibration in sympathy with the vibrating tone column in the instrument. Delicate harmonics dampened out or muffled by the bell with a wire in the rim sound full, pure and free on this new principle bell, enriching and strengthening the tone. Columbia Broadcasting System Studios in New York made tests on the Vocabell and showed it has from 12 to 15 decibels greater power with the same amount of effort than conventional bells." Used on the 40B and 48B Connqueror."
