An Amazing Value!

Unbelievable sound for the money!

 tb450g-422x1024.jpg

The Schagerl Academica TB-450G intermediate trombone is a nice choice for a beginner or for a student's first large bore f-attachment horn because it has excellent intonation, response and a rich tone. The TB-450G has a warm, compact sound, with its "open wrap" design.

We tested this horn in the shop, and then in a trombone choir setting, and were very pleased and impressed by it. The first thing we noticed is that the Schagerl Academica trombone plays well beyond its price - it packs a wallop and punches way above its weight class! The tone is very nice, with a vibrant warmth to it allows the trombone to speak freely in all registers. The lower register (2nd partial down through the trigger ranger) has a nice bite to it without being edgy. The middle registers (3rd partial to 5th partial) are clear and clean. The upper register (6th partial and above) speak freely and have a wonderful "ring". The thing we were really impressed by, beyond the tone, was how well the sound blended with trombones ranging from student horns up to trombones that cost four-times what this one does. It is an excellent performing instrument in an ensemble but will also allow young students to play solo material for recitals and Solo & Ensemble events with a rewarding and beautiful sound.

Specifications

  • Bore: 13,89 mm
  • Bell: 216 mm / Goldbrass
  • Inner Slides: Chrome
  • Outer Slides: Nickelsilver
  • Finish: lacquerd

Sold with case, mouthpiece (6 1/2 AL size), and care kit.

For beginners and very young musicians we would recommend staying with the 6 1/2AL size - either the one that comes with it or upgrade to an ACB 6. For intermediate players, who are stepping up from their student horn, consider upgrading to an ACB 5 which will help the player produce a richer, more complex, and more rewarding trombone sound. Click HERE to check out our ACB Trombone Mouthpieces!
