Our New Standard Series Mouthpiece Tops in Beautiful, Comfortable Acrylic!
I started making and playing on acrylic mouthpiece tops due to my allergies to silver and gold, but they've become incredibly popular with our customers as well! They're super comfy! They feel a little softer than metal tops, and they won't feel as cold on your chops. The acrylic is fairly dense (denser than Delrin) so the sound is pretty close to a similar metal top. We also have a wide variety of colors, so you can get a look that's fairly subtle or one that draws plenty of attention.
All designs from our New Standard Series trumpet mouthpieces are available!
Top only: no backbore included.
We use the industry standard "Warburton" threads so these tops will work with backbores from a wide variety of makers (of course we're partial to our ACB Backbores). Acrylic tops are available in our standard blank only. Give us a call at 816-410-0826 or email mpcsales@austincustombrass.com with any questions or to place an order!
All Austin Custom Brass trumpet mouthpieces are made in the USA with the absolute best tolerances in the industry!

All orders run 8-19 weeks from payment and must be paid in full before the order is made. Due to the huge selection of models and colors, many acrylic tops are custom made to order. Please email mpcsales@austincustombrass.com if you have any questions about mouthpiece delivery timelines.

"Very pleased with the acrylic top in terms of feel, performance and sound. Much appreciate the ACB quality as always in mouthpieces. The pairing with backbore suggested by Josh works well for projection and dynamics. Many thanks." -Ernie
"I am a HUGE fan of these tops. More comfy ("softer") feel than metal without giving up much brilliance of sound. I now use on my Bb, C, D, Eb, and picc." -Steven
Welcome to the NEW STANDARD!
"Making custom mouthpieces is one of the main reasons I opened up my shop. I wanted to make a mouthpiece that felt comfortable, had a rich sound full of overtones, and didn't zap my endurance! After a lot of time on the lathe, I'm proud to say I've developed a comprehensive offering of mouthpieces sizes for any gig! We have the absolute best tolerances in the industry!" -Trent Austin
Why a new standard line? It's a simplified version of our previous standard line mouthpieces with a bunch of improvements over the past decade plus. Lots of companies update their products annually and we feel like it’s time we finally updated our line with all of the amazing improvements we have been implementing over these 12+ years. We've simplified the line a great deal and eliminated a lot of frankly confusing options (although anything can still be custom ordered in our legacy listing). The introduction of our Custom Reserve line showed us many things in terms of ease of stock and having products almost always available for you. This makes it easier for us to always have pieces in stock and also far easier for our dealers too!
The best part there's not going to be an increase in price for the customer. It seems like everything else is increasing in price, the ACB New Standard series will be still available at the same price as our current standard line. This has taken us close to a year to work on and we are so excited to show you the fruits of our labor!

Most of our ACB mouthpieces are in stock in our selected preferred blank. This has been chosen by testing a great deal of options and we honestly feel these are the best blanks for the new line. Of course other ACB blanks are custom made to order and may not be in stock. Please note that almost every manufacturer measures in a slightly different place, so the comparison information sheet is for broad comparisons only.
Please note there are no returns on custom orders; gold plating is considered a custom order.
1 Series mouthpieces :
-
1B: Similar to the Papa this mouthpiece has a medium large b-shaped bowl, and slightly smaller backbore.
-
1C: This is my take on an older Bach 1C but with an improved throat and backbore combo. It feels significantly more efficient and sounds more energized while maintaining a rich core throughout all registers. This mouthpiece has our standard 24 throat and MO (10-24 combo) backbore.
-
1CS: A new product for this line this piece is similar to the 1C except it's slightly smaller and has a much more efficient entrance into the throat. It helps the articulation and adds a lively "zip" to the sound. This mouthpiece is especially good on vintage trumpets or overly dark horns to make them "speak". I particularly like the fact I can get plenty of assistance on this piece and still a very large, orchestral sound.
-
1 Studio: This is another new option in the line and is super popular as a crossover mouthpiece. Tons of "zip" and front to the attack. A special all-new cup, throat, and backbore produces one of the most efficient commercial pieces I have played without it backing up on you! I designed this mouthpiece to feel more forgiving (especially in this blank) and gained more core in the overall sound shape. This mouthpiece is a weapon for the commercial trumpet player!
1 ¼ series:
-
1 ¼ BC: This has a classic Bach Mt. Vernon 1-1/4C mouthpiece rim that's blended in the CAD program with a great old Bach 5B cup. The result is an incredibly rich sounding mouthpiece without losing efficiency or having the turbulent points caused by a traditional "screw-rim" setup. Completely re-designed for this line in 2024 and the results are amazing!
-
1 ¼ C: This is a take on a great 1 1/4C mouthpiece with some refinements in bore, backbore, and throat. To me it feels more like a 1.5C due to the great efficiency.
-
1 ¼ CS: Similar to the 1.25C except it's slightly smaller and has a much more efficient entrance into the throat. It helps the articulation and adds a lively "zip" to the sound. This mouthpiece is especially good on vintage trumpets or overly dark horns to make them "speak".
-
1 ¼ Studio: This is another new option in the line and is super popular as a crossover mouthpiece.
1 ½ Series:
-
1 ½ BC: This has a classic Bach Mt. Vernon 1-½ C mouthpiece rim that's blended in the CAD program with a great old Bach 5B cup. The result is an incredibly rich sounding mouthpiece without losing efficiency or having the turbulent points caused by a traditional "screw-rim" setup. We have re-engineered this mouthpiece in 2024 and it’s amazing!
-
1 ½ C: This is one of my best-selling mouthpieces and extremely comfortable compared to other manufacturers' "cookie cutter" rim contoured 1 1/2's.
-
1 ½ CS: Similar to the 1 1/2C except it's slightly smaller and has a much more efficient entrance into the throat. It helps the articulation and adds a lively "zip" to the sound. This mouthpiece is especially good on vintage trumpets or overly dark horns to make them "speak".
-
1 ½ Studio: This is another new option in the line and is super popular as a crossover mouthpiece.
"Trent makes some ridiculously good mouthpieces. He's either a genius or completely lottery lucky on mouthpiece designs. His 1.25Orch model is to die for. Try it for yourself" -a satisfied customer
2 Series rim (based on our ACB MV3C rim)
-
2BC: A new product in this new line the concept is similar in to other BC cups in our line. This 2 (old MV3C) mouthpiece rim that's blended in the CAD program with a great old Bach 5B cup. The result is an incredibly rich sounding mouthpiece without losing efficiency or having the turbulent points caused by a traditional "screw-rim" setup. Again this is an all-new mouthpiece in 2023 and it’s amazing!
-
2C: This is our most popular mouthpiece in the line, the MV3C, re-named for this new line (and we are adding pieces around this supremely popular setup). Another special mouthpiece! I started this design by scanning four different Mt. Vernon Bach 3C mouthpieces, then combined their best aspects into my ACB 2C design. The rim is softer and narrower than a contemporary Bach 3C, while the entrance to the throat. cup shape, and cup volume are deeper and larger than a contemporary Bach 3C. The 2C is a bit bigger all around than the traditional 3C as well, measuring at .664". For me it feels a tiny bit smaller than a 1 1/2C, with an exceptionally comfortable rim. I’ve matched this top with my MO backbore (medium-open, smaller symphonic shape) and a #26 throat. The resulting sound is tremendously rich! Although this mouthpiece is a little bigger overall than a traditional 3C design, it actually has great efficiency. Many customers have mentioned the great brilliance and core to the sound in the upper register, as well as improved response at softer dynamics throughout the whole range of the horn. Attacks are clean, crisp, and reliable.
-
2CS: MV3C rim with my CS cup -- it's slightly smaller and also has a much more efficient entrance into the throat. This helps the articulation and adds a lively "zip" to the sound. This mouthpiece is especially good on vintage trumpets or overly dark horns to make them "speak."
-
2 Studio: This is another new option in the line and is super popular as a crossover mouthpiece.
"I have the MV3C and the MV3L. Both have a great sound and are really easy to play." -Mario
3 Series mouthpieces:
-
3B: Same rim as on my 3C but with a medium deep B-shaped bowl. It's one of my most popular mouthpieces and has an incredibly warm tone!
-
3C: My take on a fantastic Bach 3C mouthpiece from the late 60's; I have never played a 3C like it. I think the added mass and proper matching backbore make this a formidable all-around mouthpiece!
-
3CS: Similar to the 3C except it's slightly smaller and has a much more efficient entrance into the throat. It helps the articulation and adds a lively "zip" to the sound. This mouthpiece is especially good on vintage trumpets or overly dark horns to make them "speak".
-
3 Studio: This piece actually was one of the inspirations for the new line. This piece is now super popular as a crossover mouthpiece.
4 Series rim (based on our ACB 3CS rim)
-
4BC: A new product in this new line the concept is similar in to other BC cups in our line. This 4 (old ACB 3CS) mouthpiece rim that's blended in the CAD program with a great old Bach 5B cup. The result is an incredibly rich sounding mouthpiece without losing efficiency or having the turbulent points caused by a traditional "screw-rim" setup. Again this is an all-new mouthpiece in 2024 and it’s amazing!
-
4C: This is our most popular mouthpiece in the line, the 3CS, re-named for this new line.
-
4CS: all new for 2024 this is the 3CS rim with my CS cup (newly designed for 2024!) -- it's slightly smaller and also has a much more efficient entrance into the throat. This helps the articulation and adds a lively "zip" to the sound. This mouthpiece is especially good on vintage trumpets or overly dark horns to make them "speak."
-
4 Studio: This is another new option in the line and is super popular as a crossover mouthpiece.
5 Series mouthpieces:
-
5B: My modernized take on one of the finest mouthpieces ever made, the Bach New York 5B. I've made the ACB 5B mouthpiece much more efficient than the vintage counterpart while maintaining the great sound shape and spread. It's one of my most popular sizes.
-
5C: Long considered a transitional mouthpiece for the student, I've spent a bunch on time on this piece as most of my earlier prototypes didn't make the cut. This mouthpiece has an incredibly rich tone with fantastic articulations and ease in all registers. It's a great, comfortable mouthpiece!
-
5CS: all new for 2024 this is the 5 rim with my CS cup (newly designed for 2024!) -- it's slightly smaller and also has a much more efficient entrance into the throat. This helps the articulation and adds a lively "zip" to the sound. This mouthpiece is especially good on vintage trumpets or overly dark horns to make them "speak."
-
5Studio: This is another new option in the line and is super popular as a crossover mouthpiece. Tons of "zip" and front to the attack. A special all-new cup, throat, and backbore produces one of the most efficient commercial pieces I have played without it backing up on you! I designed this mouthpiece to feel more forgiving and way more efficient than other options we have had in this rim diameter previously. I recently used this mouthpiece playing assistant Principal with the St. Louis Symphony for all of their “lead trumpet” needs and it did not disappoint!
"I've given Trent's 3C mouthpiece a 5 star review in the past and thought I'd do the same for the 3CS (now the 4CS in our new standard line) that I'm currently playing... It's quite simply the most comfortable and most responsive 3C type mouthpiece I've ever played with a fat, warm core to the sound. It's just a super efficient design that sounds great, what else do you need in a mouthpiece! Thanks so much for all the great gear you've made available to the trumpet world, keep up the great work Trent!" -Ray
10 ½ series mouthpieces:
-
10 1/2C: While this is a fairly small diameter mouthpiece it produces a big tone, with a fine high register and resonating low register. I started with this piece thinking it would a good mouthpiece for students to start on, but I find it very good for all players, especially those with very thin lips and ones who want a bit more corner support.
-
10 ½ CS: Another new piece in the line this is similar to the 10 1/2C in cup volume except it's bowl shaped and has a much more efficient entrance into the throat. It helps the articulation and adds a lively "zip" to the sound. This mouthpiece is especially good on vintage trumpets or overly dark horns to make them "speak". This is offered in the Standard blank.
-
10 ½ DS: Another new piece in the line this is similar to the 10 1/2S in cup volume except it's even more aggressive in terms of the cup volume, throat blend, backbore shape, and efficiency. This is a fabulous lead and commercial piece. This is offered in the Standard blank
-
10 ½ Studio: This is another new option in the line and is super popular as a crossover mouthpiece.
"About a year ago, I switched to the ACB Lead 1. I have virtually played every brand on the market over the past 20 years and nothing has helped secure my playing like the Lead 1. The sound, articulation and projection is second to none. Trent is not only a first class musician but also a first class gentleman and businessman. Kudos to making equipment that works with you to maximize the musician within!" -a satisfied customer
TA1 Series (designed for my own personal playing needs):
-
TA1:Now you can play on the same model mouthpiece that I perform on regularly! The TA1 is a mouthpiece that I created to be my own “daily driver” for most of my work. I needed a comfortable rim and great efficiency for extended practice sessions and small group gigs, but I still wanted a rich sound with lots of character. The TA1 design gave me all that and more. It has now become one of the most popular designs in the ACB line! I love the great vintage pieces of the 20’s-60’s from such makers as King, Heim, Al Cass, Giardinelli, Vincent Bach (NY), Parduba, and Purviance. I truly believe some of the most fantastic design concepts came out of that “golden age” of trumpet. I’ve been very lucky to acquire mouthpieces used by many of the world’s greatest trumpet players. One of my favorites is the special mouthpiece made for one of my heroes, Clark Terry. Clark’s piece, which was based on a Gustat Heim design, had a wonderful “vee” shaped cup. It was incredibly efficient without making the tone brittle or strident. I incorporated the V-cup shape into my TA1, giving it both wonderful ease/efficiency and an incredible tone. While the TA1 is based on Clark Terry’s mouthpiece, I made a few alterations and improvements. Clark’s original rim design was VERY flat, so for the TA1 I modified the rim and cup to make it more accessible for today’s modern player. The TA1 rim is still flat, but not nearly as pronounced as on Clark’s mouthpiece. I increased the diameter of the piece as well, as the original was a tiny bit small for my taste (it is .639"). I blended the cup entrance to the throat a bit more to make the balance between cup and bore much more efficient. The TA1 also has a slightly bigger backbore to help today’s player, as many prefer slightly more open backbores to the tighter vintage designs.
-
TA1B: : It has a cup design using our super popular B cup (based off a great playing NY Bach 5B cup and then blended with my cad program to eliminate any turbulence this is a great piece for someone who wants a full, rich sound but not a large diameter.
-
TA1 CS: Similar to the TA1 in cup volume except it's bowl shaped and has a much more efficient entrance into the throat. It helps the articulation and adds a lively "zip" to the sound. This mouthpiece is especially good on vintage trumpets or overly dark horns to make them "speak". This is offered in the Standard blank.
-
TA-Studio: This is another new option in the line and is super popular as a crossover mouthpiece. Tons of "zip" and front to the attack. A special all-new cup, throat, and backbore produces one of the most efficient commercial pieces I have played without it backing up on you!

We have many backbore choices available!
Here is a list of our backbores in order of tightest to most open:
- KA3: our newest commercial backbore and it is amazing! Feels almost like the throat is one size smaller due to the compression.
- KA2: a very nice backbore with good zing.
- KA1: more core than the A2 and a bit tighter as well.
- A2: The A2 is a weapon! Designed to be mated with extreme compression mouthpieces, this might be the ultimate commercial backbore I've played. It works great above high C and mates with 27, and 28 tops extremely well!
- T (Tight): commercial backbore which provides the most resistance and "zing" to your sound.
- MT (Medium Tight): Provides great resistance, especially for players who tend to "back-up" with very tight commercial backbores.
- S (Standard): Provides the best balance between resistance and sound spread for most players.
- MO (Medium Open): A great slightly open symphonic shape produces a rich, warm tone but still gives ample resistance when needed.
- A1: This backbore is a very large, symphonic backbore that is in between the MO and O but feels like it combines both feel and sound shapes from the two other shapes. It's a wonderful backbore suited for the classical player or jazz soloist wishing for a large sound!
- O (Open): This is a very large, open backbore designed for the orchestral musician to provide the feel and sound spread that most orchestral players prefer.
- OO (Very Open): Huge backbore for enormous, rich sound (takes a lot of air).
