"The poor man's Martin Committee"
The following is a quote from a Holton Catalog in the 1950's describing the model 48;
"An all purpose trumpet, Model 48 is particularly recommended for those who like plenty of power, unusual freedom of response and a big, yet brilliant tone. Larger bore mouthpiece and bell give a little more power and a fuller tone than model 45. Yet it has a beautiful and exceptionally easy high register. Top action shrouded spring valves are very light and fast. Bore .459, bell diameter 4 13/16 inches, weight approximately 39 ounces."
Check out this vintage Holton 48! Despite some signs of heavy use, it's a fun little horn that plays nicely. The bell has had some repair work done in shop. The valves should be rebuilt for best performance, as compression is low even with a heavy oil. The horn is priced accordingly. Need a case or some valve oil with the instrument? Add some goodies with the options above!
